Overview

Parallel Lives ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

What We Collect

AI Detector (Web App & Chrome Extension)

• Text you analyze: Text you submit or highlight for AI detection is sent to our servers for analysis, then discarded after processing
• Email address: Required for account creation and Pro subscription
• Usage data: Number of scans, features used (anonymized)

What we don't collect: The Chrome extension does not track your browsing history, read pages you don't explicitly analyze, or access any data outside of text you select.

Content You Create

• Decision text: The decisions you enter for analysis
• Journal entries: Personal journal content you write
• Chat messages: Conversations with AI features
• Voice recordings: Audio you record for transcription (processed, not stored)

Usage Data (with consent)

• Pages visited and time on page
• Features used (tree generation, exports, etc.)
• Device type, screen size, browser
• General location (timezone, language)

Account Data

• Email address: For magic link authentication (if you create an account)

Third-Party Services

Your content is processed by these providers to power the app's features:

AI Providers

• Anthropic (Claude): Generates decision trees and analysis
• OpenAI: Provides summaries and embeddings
• Deepgram: Transcribes voice recordings

Payments

• Stripe: Processes payments and manages subscriptions. Stripe collects your email, payment method details, and billing address. We only see the last 4 digits of your card. Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.

We don't sell your data. These services process your content only to provide the features you use.

How We Use Your Data

• Generate decision trees and AI analysis
• Store your decisions and journal for your personal use
• Improve the app (aggregated, anonymous usage data only)
• Send authentication emails (no marketing without consent)

Data Retention

• Your content: Stored until you delete it
• Usage analytics: Automatically deleted after 90 days
• Voice recordings: Not stored; transcribed and discarded

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: See what data we have about you
• Delete: Remove all your data permanently
• Opt-out: Disable usage tracking via the consent banner
• Export: Download all your data in JSON format

To delete all your data, go to Settings and click "Delete My Data", or contact us directly.

Speak It Chrome Extension

The Speak It voice-to-text extension requests these permissions:

• activeTab: Access the current tab to insert transcribed text into text fields you're focused on.
• storage: Save your preferences (like formatting options) locally on your device.
• Host permissions (all URLs): Required to inject the voice recording interface into any website so you can use voice-to-text on any text field (Gmail, Twitter, Facebook, etc.).

Voice data: Your speech is processed using the browser's built-in Web Speech API (stays on your device) or Deepgram (sent securely for transcription). We do not store your voice recordings - they are transcribed and immediately discarded.

Text formatting: If you use the optional AI formatting feature, your transcribed text is sent to our servers to clean up punctuation and structure. This text is processed and not stored.

The extension never tracks your browsing, reads pages you don't interact with, or collects any data in the background.

AI Detector Chrome Extension

The AI Detector Chrome extension requests these permissions:

• activeTab: Access the current tab only when you click the extension or use the context menu. We don't access tabs in the background.
• contextMenus: Add "Analyze with AI Detector" to your right-click menu for selected text.
• storage: Save your preferences and authentication token locally on your device.
• clipboardRead: Optionally paste text from clipboard into the detector (only when you initiate it).

The extension only reads text you explicitly select or paste. It never runs in the background, tracks your browsing, or accesses pages automatically.

Cookies

We use minimal cookies:

• auth_session: Keeps you logged in (7 days)
• localStorage: Stores your session ID and theme preference

No third-party tracking cookies. No advertising.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, secure password hashing, and access controls. However, no system is 100% secure.

We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. Your data is used only to provide the Service. This applies to all users, including California residents under the CCPA.

International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in the United States. Our AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI) and database infrastructure are US-based. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer. We rely on standard contractual protections where applicable.

Children's Privacy

Parallel Lives is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us to have it removed.

Changes
